The question that is on everyone’s mind, is DJing really hard? There is no easy way to answer that. The problem is that there are millions of questions packed into that single statement. Who is it that wants to know? How long have they been DJing? What kind of goals do they have? These are all things that have to be taken into account when determining the difficulty of DJing. Instead of spending hours dissecting this complex issue we’re going to break it up into 3 easy sections.

Is it really hard to mix 2 songs together?

It may sound cliché but this part is entirely up to you. Learning how to DJ is no different from learning any other skill. It’s not like the first time you pick up a guitar you can start soloing like Jimi Hendrix. When you’re mixing 2 tracks together there are a lot of things you have to keep in mind.

Given the right educational tools, the fundamentals of DJing can be learned quickly. That’s one of the main reasons we started DJ Master Course, so that beginners have an easy way to understand the most important elements of making a perfect mix.

Is it really hard to DJ a full set?

This is when it starts getting tougher because you have to take all the skills you’ve learned and apply them in a live setting. Experience is your best friend. The more you do something the better you’re going to get at it. When you’re DJing for a group of people you have to learn to read the dance floor. What kind of music matches the venue you’re performing at? What’s the next song people want to hear? When should you slow down or speed up the BMP?

There are plenty of factors to take into consideration when DJing a full set. The best way to improve is by performing at private parties and small venues while you work your way up to a local residency.

It it really hard to be a famous DJ?

Being a superstar certainly comes with a lot of perks but only for those individuals that are willing to put in the work. You’re never going to stop learning the fundamentals, whether it’s your first time DJing or your selling out shows like Tiesto. There’s always something new to learn and there’s always room for improvement.

Famous DJs, however, have to worry about other things too like their stage presence, interacting with fans and building up their social media. Not to mention DJs are also expected to produce their own music and have original songs available for download or purchase. Throw all of this on top of a hectic touring schedule and you’ve got yourself quite a busy workday.

That’s not to say it can’t be done though. Look at Martin Garrix, he’s only 18 and he’s already achieved worldwide recognition. And he is not the only one. Young kids everywhere are learning how to mix, producing in their rooms and going on to be signed by labels such as Spinnin’ Records and Revealed Recordings.

So, is DJing really hard? I don’t know, you tell me.
