Most people who were born in 1996 are probably just starting to think about college. High school graduation is right around the corner and acceptance letters are beginning to show up in the mail. Kids will be moving out of their parent’s houses for the first time and going off to face the big, scary world. Martin Garrix, however, is not most people. He’s only 18 years old but he’s already taken over the electronic dance music scene. Aspiring musicians everywhere want to know how to DJ like Martin Garrix.
Garrix has been in love with music from a very early age. He learned to play guitar when he was just 4 years old and by the time he was 8 he had already decided that he wanted to be a DJ. Garrix was inspired to learn how to mix after he saw DJ Tiesto and DJ Jayvee performing at the Olympic games in Athens.
After a couple of years making his way around the Dutch underground music community, Garrix found success with the release of ‘Animals.’ The song was released by Dutch record label Spinnin’ Records and it quickly became a hit all over Europe. Garrix was the youngest person ever to reach the number 1 spot on Beatport. ‘Animals’ received so much attention that it was even featured on Hardwell’s album, ‘Hardwell Presents: Revealed Volume 4.’
The song ‘Animals’ went on to become a top 10 hit in more than 10 countries. It even managed to reach the number 1 spot in Belgium and the United Kingdom. Garrix followed up the success of ‘Animals’ with a new single called ‘Wizard.’ The track was produced with Jay Hardway and it became a hit in a number of countries in 2014.
Martin Garrix hasn’t been around for that long but his impact in the music world has certainly been felt. He debuted at #40 on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs and he is currently ranked at number 4. We’ll definitely be seeing more of this young international sensation.
